St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated in Ireland with much pomp and ceremony every year on March 17th.We are delighted to have had David Conway, who is the Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Ireland in Lithuania, give a presentation to the students about St, Patrick’s Day.

During the event, the Deputy Head of Mission discussed topics such as Irish history and the acquisition of Irish Independence in 1921, the differences between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, the symbols that people associate with Ireland, modern Irish diplomacy and the great Irish potato famine.

Nurturing a few of the core values of Erudito Licejus and the IB Diploma Programme – international-mindedness and citizenship – we are grateful to commemorate St. Patrick’s Day as well as Irish culture with David Conway. It was interesting to learn about how Ireland came to be the country it is today and about the origins of St. Patrick’s Day!

We would like to thank 11 IB class student Austėja Andrunavičiūtė for this initiative organizing commemoration of St. Patrick’s Day at the lyceum!
