Pre-IBD Programme I Mathematics and Biology

Erudito licėjus Preparatory IB programme are designed to provide students of different backgrounds with a rigorous, international and broad education that prepares them for the next stage of their education and the step up to the IB Diploma. It provides a high level of foundational knowledge that students can then build upon when they enter in Year 10 also allow students to specialise and prepare for the choices they will make in the IB.

Our Preparatory IB programme links in with the qualities and attributes of the IB learner profile which encourages learners to become balanced, caring, communicators, inquirers, knowledgeable, open minded, principled, risk-takers, reflective and thinkers. 

Aims of Pre-IBD Programme 

  • To ensure students are prepared for the IB Diploma Programme. 
  • To ensure students have an understanding of the key subject content and are not disadvantaged in their transition to the IB. 
  • To ensure students are able to experience the integrated curriculum in advance of the IB Diploma. 
  • To be flexible and suit a range of student needs and requirements. 
  • To allow students to integrate with the students in their group

Subjects of Pre-IBD Programme

This year we offer two courses: Biology and Mathematics. The programme has 16 hour time allowance for each subject with a specialist teacher and runs in parallel to year 9 as extra curriculum activity which it allows students to seamlessly integrate with their peers. 

Subjects taught:

  • Mathematics
  • Biology

Courses will be held in english.

Later, students can continue with their subject choices however they will have another opportunity to pick their IB choices and there are additional subject choices they can make for their IB diploma.

Erudito Pre-IB courses empower learners to develop their understanding of basic concepts in biology and mathematics. Furthermore, it enable students to improve their practical skills in processes of scientific inquiry, logical thinking and problem solving skills. Pupils will plan and conduct investigations and develop their understanding of scientific theories related to connections between cells and systems, animals and plants. Also, this course will develop the students’ confidence to apply their mathematical skills and knowledge in appropriate situations.

Assessment of Pre-IBD Programme

 At the end of the course, students will have two internal Pre-IB exams that are assessed by their teachers.

Course Teacher:

Jurgita Makuškaitė, International Baccalaureate  Programme Biology Teacher | Jurgita graduated from Vilnius University with a master’s degree in Environmental Sciences and Ecology. She has also completed PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education) studies at Middlesex University and received a qualified teacher’s status (QTS) in the United Kingdom. Jurgita has taught Biology, Chemistry, and Physics GCSE in Secondary Schools in London for the past three years. She gained invaluable international experience in teaching English National Curriculum for Science. Jurgita enjoys sharing her knowledge and skills with students and believes that perseverance, open-mindedness, positivity, and resilience are among the most important values needed for the students to be prepared for the challenges of this precious century. Jurgita believes that “Teachers can open the door, but you must enter it yourself.”

Course Teacher:

Ash Ellis, International Baccalaureate and Cambridge (IBDP/IGCSE) Programmes Head Science Teacher, Students’ Projects Coordinator

Ash is a Lead chemistry, physics and mathematics teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Ash has two BScs degrees which shows her thirst for knowledge and Postgraduate Diploma Secondary Education and Subject Knowledge Enhancement Science/Chemistry at University of Plymouth.  Ash is a prestige member of UK charted teachers, with a proven track record of helping students achieving extraordinary results. She joined this prestigious group by studying the science of learning, where through research they are improving teaching practices in educational environments. She has taught a variety of age groups and topics including, GCSE, IGCSE, A Level Chemistry, A Level Physics and Cambridge International A Level Physics. Ash believes in training and encouraging the new generation to become lifelong learners and preparing them for the unknown future. “Nothing happens until something moves” – Albert Einstein.

Biology classes will start from May 3 until June 21, every Tuesday from 3.30 to 5.30 p.m.

Mathematics classes will start from May 5 until June 23, every Thursday from 3.30 to 5.30 p.m.
