Matthew Nathan Downie
Matthew completed his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with Forensic Science in Leicester and, in 2015, earned his PGCE at Nottingham Trent University. Since then, he has taught Chemistry and Environmental Systems in six countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Mexico, and most recently, Japan. He has also worked as an A-level Chemistry examiner for the Edexcel exam board, using the insights gained from this experience to better prepare his students for assessments.
Matthew is a passionate chemistry enthusiast who believes the subject plays a key role in developing students’ ability to apply logic and reasoning in problem-solving.
He firmly believes that learning is a continuous process and that there is always something new to discover. Mistakes are inevitable, but true failure only occurs when one gives up. Outside of teaching, Matthew enjoys archery and rugby, and he is also learning Japanese, German, and Spanish.
