Kotryna Starkutė
Kotryna, originally from Kaunas, was introduced to music from early childhood through traditional music groups and singing lessons. She deepened her love for music by studying Music Education and Choral Conducting at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre in Vilnius, later continuing her Master’s studies in Choral Conducting at KMH in Stockholm. For five years, Kotryna worked in Scotland as a music teacher, choir conductor, and soloist in various projects.
Kotryna has always been actively involved in group musical activities – from choirs and summer camps to educational seminars. She has led and participated in ethnographic as well as collective singing and dance groups, volunteer projects, and international music festivals. She values curiosity, collaboration, and the joy of sharing artistic experiences with the international community.
Her teaching approach is holistic and flexible, acknowledging that there is no single universal method for a lesson. By integrating different disciplines, encouraging expression and improvisation, curiosity and reflection, as well as mutual learning between student and teacher, Kotryna believes that music lives within each of us – as rhythm, pulse, and sound. Just as we can understand one another by speaking the same language, this connection can be deepened even further through collective singing.
