European Day of Languages in lyceum

If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart (Nelson Mandela).

The Day of Languages has been celebrated every year since 2001 on 26th September. Did you know that more than 200 languages are spoken across Europe and there are more than 7,000 languages spoken in the world? Did you know that the Eskimos have about 50 words for snow, and some speakers in Africa use clicks (sounds such as Tut-Tut or Tsk Tsk) while uttering words? Have you ever thought about the longest words existing in different languages?

On 27th September Erudito Licėjus’ younger students learnt a lot about languages by studying the map of Europe, discussing the most popular languages in the world, comparing animal sounds in different languages. The elder students also took up some challenges such as taking part in a quiz, saying tongue twisters, thinking of their favourite word in different languages.

Have you ever wondered what your favourite word is?
